To assess the current landscape's match with the cultural
landscape, we used the classical landscape structures (Elbakidze &
Angelstam, 2007) such as domus (built-up area), hortus (garden),
ager (crop land), saltus (pastures) and silva (forests) as proxies.
Unfortunately, the cartographic resources used throughout the
study do not all distinguish between domus and hortus; therefore,
they were both grouped under the type ‘built-up’. Furthermore,
crop land (ager) is missing in the study area, due to specific
geographical and meteorological conditions. Finally, three land
cover types could be delineated and used in the study: built-up
lands (domus and hortus), pastures (saltus) and forests (silva).
