Chances are, the first thing that you noticed was the red leaf on the tree. I was walking the other day when I saw this tree. Epiphany!!! I grabbed my phone and snapped a picture.
That one leaf standing out, all red and beautiful, made me think of one of the categories that I plan to have for my blog – Tradition vs. Trend. Tradition is defined as “a customary or characteristic method or manner”. It is “something that is handed down”. It is the expected! Traditions are great because they help establish a family, a community and a culture. We all have traditions that we look forward to and enjoy.
Then, there are times when we need a break from tradition. We want something with spunk or dazzle, something that stands out from the rest…like that red leaf. Those are the times you can look to a trend, or current, popular style. You can even start your own.
When planning your wedding, there will be times that you will make choices like the green leaves. Those are the traditional choices, white or ivory wedding dress, tuxedos for the men, a tiered cake, a first dance done to a slow love song… Those are the anticipated, expected and classic choices, and there is nothing wrong with that. Part of the joy of planning your wedding is being able to partake in those traditional choices when it comes time for your own big day!!
In addition to the standards, you will also make choices like the red leaf; they will stand out from the rest. You may change into a reception dress that is pink, silver or….red!! The groom may also have different reception attire. In lieu of a head table, you may sit amongst your guests, enjoying the reception elbow to elbow with the rest. You may even wear a colored heel at your wedding and a pair of colored Converse at your reception, like one of my fabulous brides decided to do!
