Kim Won Jung and Park Ji Woon talking about 87mm -part 1-
*H*: Please introduce yourself
Jiwoon: Hello. I am model Park Ji Woon.
Won Joong: Hi! I am model Kim Won Joong
*H*: Please reveal your real height and weight
Jiwoon: 187cm / 70kg
Won Joong: 187cm / 68kg
H: When did you two first meet?
Won Joong: It was during the March 2010 Beyond Closet show rehearsal. I can still remember Jiwoon vividly. There was a person with a tall height and a white face wearing a Hitler costume and basketball shoes that looked about 320mm tall. As soon as I saw him, I couldn’t help but to say, “Wow~!" Before then, I accidentally came across Ji Woon’s minihompy. He was friend who originally had lots of popularity. (laughs)
Ji Woon: Back then, Won Joong was the show’s first model. In my mind I thought, “Who is that freckled person that gets to be the first model?" Because of his bright personality, we got along right away.
H: How did you two team up to create 87mm?
At first we met through Seoul Fashion Week as models. While preparing for the runway, we met often and found out that we lived in the same neighborhood. Since then we naturally became acquainted. We put our thoughts together one by one and created 87mm.
H: What is the meaning of 87mm?
Since people born in ‘87 came together, we used that number. Also “mm" is just a name without any meaning that we stuck with. (laughs) While we were thinking of what name to choose we were drinking milk and suddenly added mm, HPa, and MHz to the number 87. “mm" suited the name the most and as a result the name 87mm was chosen. (laughs)
H: (Kim Won Joong) What was yor experience as the very first Asian model to participate in the Milano Prada collection?
Won Joong: Honestly, I got ready to go overseas while thinking of Paris. But I arrived after the Paris Fashion Week casting period was finished and was not able to participate in any shows. After briefly staying in Paris, I went to Milan. Luckily, I made a contract with a famous agency, and I was able to walk at the show of my dreams, Prada. It was really a touching moment for me.
H: Did you know that you were the first Asian model to walk at a Prada show?
Won Joong: Yes. I knew that Hye Park was the first female model to walk at a Prada show. As the first Asian male model I felt delighted and honored. (laughs) However afterwards I was in a position preparing to leave for New York and I felt a slightly burdensome.
H: Tell us about your model debut and your first modeling work.
Ji Woon: It was in April 2008 during a MAPS Uniqlo photo shoot. I remember posing emotionally in a field of reeds all by myself. (laughs)
Won Joong: It was in September 2009 during a MAPS GQ shooting. It was only a one cut photo shoot, but from that I started modeling activities.
H: While doing model activities, are there any incidents that happened?
Ji Woon: There was a time when I took over the show’s high light performance. But I was so nervous, I forgot the entire performance. Eventually, the show finished without any high light performance and I remember causing a firestorm. (laughs) Also not too long ago I had a fan meeting probably for the first time in my whole career that will remain in my memory.
Won Joong: Before I got on the runway, there was time when my clothes got ripped. Honestly it happened because of a helper’s mistake but eventually it caused a firestorm. (ha ha) There was also a time in Milan that I can’t forget. I went to casting auditions over 30 times, but I never got any contact. During my disappointment I got my first casting at ETRO. I was so happy I felt like I could fly.
H: We heard that you two receive lots of gifts from your fans?
Won Joong: I think this question is wrong. The correct question would be, “We heard that Park Ji Woon receives lots of gifts from fans?" (ha ha) I’ve received gifts just two times. That’s why I steal and eat Ji Woon’s biscuits that he received as gifts from time to time. (laughs)
Ji Woon: I don’t receive gifts as much as you think. Even though I receive gifts from fans from time to time, honestly I feel sorry and burdensome.
H: Tell us about the collaboration of 87mm and Beyond Closet.
First of all, we operate 87mm as a shopping mall. However, we wanted to break away from the shopping mall image. Then we talked with the designer we’re closest with, Go Tae Yong about a collaboration. Of course it’s only one item but our opinions were involved with the result design, color, and material. It received a warmer response than we thought, so we hope that you will keep on the lookout for different work in the future.
H: As a model and as a businessman, what are you future goals?
Ji Woon: My goal as a model is to have more people in the world know who I am. Also, I would like it if everything we’ve wanted to do with 87mm would happen.
Won Joong: I would like it if I could be signed to agencies from all over the world. That’s why through New York as well as Paris and Milan I would like to participate in collections overseas. I also hope that 87mm does well and I could become rich. (ha ha) In addition, we are running 87mm with a really serious heart.
H: Any summer plans?
Ji Woon: No specific opportunity has turned up yet, but I’d like to schedule an overseas travel. I think it’ll be somewhere in the Southeast.
Won Joong: I’m scheduled to leave for America to participate in New York Fashion Week during September. This time I plan to prepare for casting auditions unhurriedly.
H: Can you say a word to your fans?
Ji Woon: There are many fun opportunities planned now. Realistically, there may be possible and impossible things, but since I’m preparing hard so keep on the lookout.
Won Joong: The fact there are friends out there that support me and carry the dream of being a model makes me feel so thankful. Keep anticipating an even more charismatic aspect.
