Teachers may presume that students who complete little or no schoolwork or are frequently off task do not want to learn or to do well. This assumption, however, may be inaccurate. Students who have had a limited amount of successful school experiences may choose not to work as a way to avoid further failure. Because they have not been successful in the past, they don’t expect to be successful now or in the future. These students will need extra support and encouragement in order to regain their confidence. Here are a few suggestions you might want to try.
