THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
Multimedia program is characterized by the presence of text, pictures, sound, animation and
video; some or all of which are organized into some coherent program (Phillips & Jenkins,
1997). An important part of any multimedia program is the ‘interface’, which is the
communication boundary between the computer and the user. In order to communicate the
program to the user it is primarily the computer screen and how it is designed is important; it
can also include audio or other forms of output (Alessi & Trollip, 2001).
