We hypothesized the potential benefits of optimizing dietary PL for channel catfish producers to include (1) increased growth and shortened production time, (2) increased survival and yield, and (3) reduced total feed cost due to increased nutrient digestibility and feed conversion efficiency. Therefore, a study was undertaken to determine if diets enhanced with supplemental PL from soybean lecithin can improve the lipid and cholesterol composition of farmed channel catfish relative to traditional practical diets, while improving catfish growth and health. Specific objectives of the study were to determine the effects of supplemental dietary PL from soy lecithin added to practical diets on growth, survival, wholebody lipid, and innate immune response during juvenile channel catfish production and to assess changes in plasma and liver lipid biochemistry.
