Lifestyle modifications, including weight reduction and increased physical activity, have been shown to improve blood-pressure control in persons who are not pregnant. In addition, an increased body-mass index is a well-established risk factor for preeclampsia.27 The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends weight reduction before pregnancy in obese women.28 However, data are lacking to inform whether such measures improve pregnancy outcomes specifically in women with hypertension.
