2.3.4. Built environment experience survey
The Built Environment Experience (BEE) survey was created for this study to investigate student perceptions of the test room conditions and the extent to which they felt the environment influenced their performance on the comprehension task. The survey consisted of 12 items to which participants indicated their agreement or disagreement with the item via a five point Likert scale that ranged from 1 1⁄4 strongly agree to 5 1⁄4 strongly disagree.
The 12 items were subjected to an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) using principal axis factoring (PAF) to identify possible subscales within the BEE. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy was .83, exceeding the recommend value of .60 indicating adequate sample size for the procedure and the Barlett's (1954) Test of Sphericity value was significant (p 1⁄4 .00).
