SAFEY THE WORKPLACE INCLUDING OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES Workplace safety is the subject of comprehensive legislation. The occupational Safety Act(1973) requires the appointment of safety experts, medical personnel and Occupational Safety Committees, and lays down their powers and duties. The Industrial Constitution Act(Betriebsverfassungsgesetz) govems the establishment of Works Councils(Betriebsrat) which deal with health and safety along with their other responsibilities
7.2 Works Councils
7.2.1 Works Councils may be established in workplaces with five or more permanent workers and are comprised solely of workers' representatives. Their size is determined by the size of the company, on a sliding scale:
