In geographical studies of development, it is recognized that use of services varies directly with income and social status, and that it declines away from towns and cities. distance to services is and indicator of ease of access to services. in any development effort, there exists a "distance decay" away from the center and toward the periphery. analysis of the relationship between the center and the periphery, particular involving infrastructure and people, is fast becoming a centerpiece in all current literature in geography on regional development planning in the Third word.
