Effect of post-storage ethylene or 1-MCP treatment onfirmness of plums during shelf lifePlums firmness declined rapidly when ripening at 25◦C afterremoval from the cold storage at 0◦C. Post-storage ethylene treat-ment could not further accelerate softening of all three cultivars,as no significant difference in firmness was detected between theplum treated with ethylene and the control, regardless of cultivars(Fig. 5A, B and C). However, softening progress of ‘Gaixian’ (Fig. 5A)and ‘Aozhou 14’ (Fig. 5C) were effectively inhibited during shelf lifeby the post-storage 1-MCP treatment. Firmness loss in ‘Yuhuang’was delayed only for 2 days (Fig. 5B).
