The morphology of the products
The morphological images of as prepared Co 2+ doped ZnO nanopowder were taken at different magnifications by using SEM and shown in Fig. 2. These micrographs revealed the irregular shaped domain like morphologies of the prepared sample. Co 2+ doped ZnO nanopowde r has smaller crystallite size and greater surface roughness (due to higher density of grain boundaries). The aggregate of crystallites of various sizes indicating a size distribution
is clearly evident from Fig. 2. The EDS analysis of Co 2+ doped ZnO nanopowde r was carried
out to establish the purity of the samples and also to confirm the presence of Co content in them. The observed EDS patterns are shown in Fig. 3. It is noticed from Fig. 3, the prepared sample contains only Zn, Co and O and there were no spurious contaminations. The ratio of the atomic percentage of the elements present in the samples complies with the quantity taken for their preparation. Elemental analysis indicates that the sample contains only target elements with the absence of any impurities within the EDS analysis limit.
