Our respondents
were wary of getting tested at local community
centers and feared that health professionals
may disclose their HBV status to other community
members. Their emphasis on privacy and fear of
gossip in the community has implications for future
HBV interventions. A cost-effective strategy
would be to diminish the stigma in this community
and reframe the HBV epidemic as a community
issue that requires community efforts, similar
to the strategies used in the San Francisco Hep B
Free Campaign and other interventions that use
personal narratives to reduce stigma
