Even with the best care, cows can become non-productive due to infertility, udder condition and/or injury requiring these animals to be removed or “culled” from the herd. Although no longer a productive member of the herd, these animals represent a source of safe, quality beef. Like feeder cattle, these market cows must pass stringent inspection by trained inspection services veterinarians in all our approved slaughter facilities before the meat from these animals enters the food supply chain. Ensuring that these animals entering the food supply are not only of good quality, but that they are fit for transport, is the responsibility of everyone in the beef supply chain.
