Yarn produced by its spinning operation and that procured from outside sources was coveyed to JT’S weaving mill located in the town of Pak Thong Chai about 15 miles from the company’s sericulture operation. This facility was the largest hand weaving operation in the country . Yarn entering the mill was first dyed to give it a particular color , then woven into fabric on one of the 537 hand looms installed in the facility . In addition to this mill. JT also operated a satellite weaving mill, containing 277 hand looms , in a nearby village . Looms a both locations had been designed and buit by company technicians. Most of the company 1500 weavers were women. Hand weaving was a slow , tedious process. During a typic 8- hour shift, a weaver added only 2 0r 3 meters to the length of the fabric being produced on her loom .Fabric width was generally about 1 meter.
