The roots of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer (Araliaceae) were
recorded as early as 1st century AD in the Shen Nung Ben Cao
Jing as one of the most important Chinese herbal medicines for the
promotion of physical strength and resistance to diseases (Wu
et al., 2002; Tachikawa et al., 2003). It is reported that more than 40
ginsenosides have been isolated and identified from ginseng
species (Park et al., 2005)
