Colombia Civil Defense (La Defensa Civil Colombiana) says that heavy rain since Monday 25 January, 2016, has caused flooding and landslides in remote areas of the department of Nariño.
A landslide in the municipality of Cumbal has left at least 6 people dead and 4 missing after two houses were completely buried. Colombian Civil Defense are attempting to reach the location of the landslide, which they say is a 10 hour journey from the nearest main town of Cumbal.
Colombian Civil Defense also report that the heavy rainfall has resulted in the overflowing of the Mira river in the municipality of Tumaco . The village of Imbilí has been flooded, affecting 450 families. Homes, crops and livestock have all suffered damage.
The River Ispí has also flooded some areas the municipality of Roberto Payán, which has affected 60 families and also caused damage to homes and crops. Full damage assessments for all three affected areas are yet to be completed.
Nariño department is in the west of Colombia, along the border with Ecuador, where heavy rainfall has caused flooding in at least 8 provinces since 24 January, 2016.
