POLICY
Start up and Shut down of Boilers & Heaters
PROCEDURE
CAUTION
· Always refer to operational manuals for specific items of plant and equipment.
· Always operate boilers/heaters via building management systems where fitted.
· Major plant and equipment is interlocked during shutdown.
· Serious damage can result to boilers/heaters through operation without adequate feed/circulation of
water.
· Boiler/heater controls and/or safety interlocks must never be overridden or disabled.
· Safety valves are never to be spaded.
· Do not attempt to immediately or manually re-light a boiler after flame out.
· Allow full ignition sequence to complete including purge cycle.
START UP
1. Ensure boiler feed/circulation pumps are running & boiler water levels are correct.
2. Confirm feed checks and discharge valves are open.
3. Confirm fuel supply valves are open. (Gas/oil fired boilers).
4. Initiate burner light off sequence.
5. Confirm ignition.
SHUTDOWN
1. Initiate shutdown sequence.
