It indicated that the adverse impact of non-VFAs on the PHA
accumulation was eliminated gradually in this pilot-scale automatic
fermenter system, by a process similar to bacterial domestication.
The reinforcement of PHA accumulation might be attribute
to (i) the community structure was optimized that PHA-producing
bacteria became dominated; (ii) the substrate selective ability of
the bacterial consortium was improved that substrate for PHA synthesis
was prior to be uptaken.
