Aquestionnairewasthesolemeansofdatacollection.Thisquestionnaireusedavariety of question formats and was divided into three sections. The first section was designed to seek information of a background nature, including gender, academic level, and discipline area. The second section was constructed to ask participants to indicate how confidenttheywereinperformingwork-relatedtasksusingaten-pointscale.Thescale’s anchorpointswerenotconfidentatallandcompletelyconfident.Thework-relatedtasks were grouped according to three areas, namely, research, teaching, and service. This sectionofthequestionnairewaspartlybasedonaninstrumentdevelopedbySchoenand Winocur(1988).Eventhoughsomeoftheiritemswereretained,manywererewordedor replacedtoreflectchangesthathadtakenplaceinacademeduringthepasttwodecades. This development exercise was informed by expert review and piloting. The focus of third section was on the level of importance and satisfaction that participants gave to these tasks, as well as the number of refereed publications produced during the participant’s academic career.
