Climatologists are already issuing warning that the “greenhouse effect” influences world temperature. This1 is caused by burning oil and coal which releases carbon dioxide. In the atmosphere, carbon dioxide acts rather like a one-way mirror; it2 allows the sun’s rays to pass through easily on the way to the earth’s surface, but prevents heat emitted by the earth from escaping back into space. I would be true to say that a concentration4 of carbon dioxide acts like the glass in the roof of a greenhouse, of the kind used in colder countries for growing certain plants and vegetables. The glass roof allows the sun’s rays to enter but prevents the heat from escaping. This “greenhouse effect” will warm up the world. The atmosphere will be 3 degrees Celsius warmer in the year 2050 than it is today, if man continues to burn fuels at the present rate
