The memorial area is set on the premise where Japanese merchants once lived when started to settle down in Thailand in late 16th century during the Ayutthaya kingdom. One of the leaders is Nagamaza Yamada, who was favored by King Song Tham who later appointed him Okya Senapimuk to rule Nakhon Si Thammarat on his behalf. The Japanese Village today exhibits the history of relationships between the Kingdom of Ayutthaya and Japan and other foreign countries.
