All of the work should be done in Adobe
Illustrator. Don’t use Photoshop. Also
important is that you have to design to
standard rug sizes. So if it’s rectangular,
design the overall rug to 8’ x 12’ and do
the artwork 4 to 1 scale. So the size of the
actual Illustrator le would be 2’ x 3’. For
an oval carpet use 8’ 4” x 11’ 8” so 4 to 1
scale would be about 2’ 2” x 2’ 11”. I
created templates at the right which you
can scale up to the correct size. The
radius on the oval carpet is correct to
don’t change the size of the radius. Rugs
are carried in a number of size for each
size so we can size those dimensions up
and down based on the style of carpet
and the number of options Kaplan would
like once the designs are completed.
These are all some of my notes and
suggestions on designing out the carpet
line. I’d suggest reading this, telling me if
you have any questions, pulling together
your research and then beginning to
work on the designs slowly and carefully
once we have a color palette dened.
You can pull in extra help (freelancers if
you know of any) to help with this since
it’s such a big project.
