examples of regional plans developed across national borders include the wadden sea doggerbank, both covered by the habitat directive. the wadden sea plan is developed as a transboundary initiative between the netherlands, germany and denmark to protect and manage on a common basis a shared coastal wetland system (douvere,2008). the doggerbank is special area of conservation shared by germany, the netherlands, the UK and denmark, which is renowned for its fishing and nursing grounds, as well as for new wind energy (degnbol, 2012). the experiences made iin these processes can be beneficial to future regionalization.
