EARLY YEARS POLICY
RATIONALE
We believe that by the end of the Early Years programme children will have:
• Engaged themselves in a play based learning environment.
• Experienced a holistic educational approach to learning.
• Developed the skills required to enhance their future learning.
• Developed an awareness of the Early Learning Goals to enable them to work
towards Milepost 1.
ORGANISATION
Both the outdoor and indoor environments in the Early Years are divided into learning areas.
These invite children to explore, develop, experience, investigate, gain new skills, and
encourage independence to further their learning.
Staff will continuously support children through the learning areas by
• modelling play to enhance their imagination
• providing an inviting environment where children develop the necessary skills
• interacting with children alone or in small groups
• developing the 4 strands: independence and interdependence, communicating,
exploring, healthy living
• role playing real life situations
Regular communication with parents is needed by
• reinforcing the open door policy
• daily contact
• letters/information boards
• IPC entry and exit points
• termly teacher/parent meetings
• a formal report once a year
CURRICULUM
We follow the Early Years International Primary Curriculum.

to read in the classroom. The children will also work towards the key objectives for Literacy and
Numeracy.
