In may there's camel racing. This started in 1971, when two friends decided to have a race on camels along the dry bed of the Todd River. Now the Camel Cup is a very big race and a lot of people come to watch. If you think there aren't enough camels in Australia for a vcamel race, think again! The country has got about 1500,000 wild camels. In the 19th century people used them for journeys when there wasn't enough water for their horses. When railways and roads arrived, the camels weren't useful any more, but they survived very happily in Australia's central desert.
