Setting
A small district west of Washington Square in a three story brick house. In Johnsy’s bedroom there is a painted iron bedstead and a small Dutch window with a blank brick wall outside of the house next door. The setting of this story is very important because the ivy leaves are located on the brick wall across from Johnsy’s bedroom window. Without the brick wall with the leaves it would be a completely different story. The brick houses/apartments are so close together that Johnsy is able to count and see the leaves clearly. It is also important to the story because it is where Mr. Behrman paints his master piece that gives Johnsy hope to live.
