Traditionally greenhouses operate in cooler climates and require vast amounts of heating, electricity and fresh water for climate control within the greenhouse environment. The energy requirements of traditional greenhouses represent the largest operating cost and fresh water is often not readily available in many arid parts of the world. Sundrop Farms is developing a solution to these problems in that it will use solar thermal energy in arid locations to desalinate sea water into fresh water and regulate the heating/cooling of the greenhouse thereby removing the dependence on fresh water and fossil fuels traditionally relied upon in today’s greenhouse industry.
