Smoking has been a global problem harming all nations world wide. Many
governments have posed rules and regulations on smoking for the reason of reducing
consumption level. Stop Smoking Wales, is a government organization who aims
toward communicating the harms of smoking in the hope of reducing the number of
smokers within Wales. For a new upcoming camping, Stop Smoking Wales needs
information to encourage smokers to change their behaviour, and increase public
awareness of smoking-related litter. 5 research objectives are set in order to help
overcome the stated problems. 1) Identifying the profiles of smokers. Descriptive
research design is adopted due to the nature of the research. Survey/questionnaire is
the technique used to collect the data, and quota sampling is used for 100 smokers.
2) Investigating smoking levels. Similarly, descriptive research design is used. The
proposed technique for colleting the data is survey/questionnaire, and quota sampling
method is used for 100 smokers. 3) Discovering behaviour of smokers and 4)
Exploring motivations to smoke and to quit. Exploratory design is identified for both
objectives because of their exploratory nature. Focus group is the proposed the
technique for colleting the relevant data for both; moreover, quota sampling is the
proposed sampling method; for the reason that, there are restrictions on the sample. 5)
Understanding behaviour regarding litter related to smoking. Quantitative exploration
is used under the category of exploratory design. Personal observation is the
technique of colleting the relevant data; furthermore, quota sampling is the method for
observing 30 smokers.
Cardiff City Centre is the planned location for gathering the required data with the
proposed questionnaire and observation form by the interviewer and the observer.
Supervision is an example of control method used to ensure the quality of data. On the
contrary, focus group facility is the place of conducting and acquiring data through
topic guide by the moderator. Availability of organisation’s representative is an
example of the controlling technique. Computerized statistical packages such as:
SPSS and Minitab are used to analyse the quantitative and qualitative data.
The cost of this plan/proposal is ₤ 15,100 and the final analysed/interpreted report will
be ready for delivery after 7 weeks from the starting date in order to be studied and to
enhance decision-making for the new anti-smoking campaign that will be executed by
Stop Smoking Wales.
