This circuit also exemplifies the concept of planetary urbanization, a key condition of the Anthropocene. Spaces far from traditional city centers and suburban areas have become interwoven in the global urban fabric (Brenner and Schmid 2011). This concept illuminates the “operations and impacts of urbanization processes beyond the large centers of agglomeration . . . which often traverse peripheral, remote and apparently ‘rural’ or ‘natural’ locations” (Brenner 2014, 20). The entire planet is now being used to hasten and intensify urban industrial development.
