The massattenuationofhighenergy X or γ-rayphotonsis
governedprimarilybytheatomicnumberanddensityofthe
concreteasashieldingmaterial.Massattenuationcoefficients
depend onpairproduction,photoelectriceffectandCompton
scattering.Itisindicatedthattheeffectiveatomicnumber Zeff
and theeffectiveelectronnumber Neff are usefulparameterfor
radiationshielding.Theeffectiveatomicnumber Zeff and the
effectiveelectronnumber Neff depend ontheelementalcomposi-
tions oftheheavy-weightandnormal-weightconcretes.Theiron,
barium andcalciumconcentrationoftheconcretesismore
effectivethantheotherelementalconcentrationsaccordingto
the resultsanalyzed.The Zeff and Neff valuesofheavy-weight
concretesarefoundtobehigherthanthe Zeff and Neff valuesof
the normal-weightconcretes.
