Introduction
Your preference for our oil palm planting materials encourages us to continue innovating, so that we can offer you new, increasingly productive varieties that will ensure the profitability of your business. The purpose of this page is to guide you in choosing the most appropriate variety for the environmental conditions in your region, especially with respect to rainfall, temperature and solar radiation.
The values given are for the different characteristics of the varieties at different sites, and they have been provided by our clients from around the world; the photographs were taken in Coto, Costa Rica, for illustration purposes.
Most of ASD’s genetic improvement program is in Coto, Costa Rica, an area that has high rainfall and low solar radiation, which fosters vigorous plant growth. These conditions are favorable to our genetic improvement work, since they allow the selection and development of slow-growing, short-leaved varieties and clones, without the problem of having the response masked by climatic factors.
In addition to the descriptions of ASD’s “Premium”, “Standard”, “Special” and “High Density” varieties, this page includes information about clones (plants grown from tissues) that can be planted at high density. Moreover, the characteristics of a new hybrid variety that is highly tolerant to spear rots is described.
