It was previously reported that the naval vessels were being mended at a substantial cost borne by the owner of the Trans Future 2. However, the compensation amount offered to the Brunei government has not been made public.
The government incurred operational costs and financial losses due to the incident, according to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) Report 2013-2015.
Following the collision between the RBN and Japanese ships, the Marine Department advised members of the shipping community, sea captains and boat owners to always be on alert and vigilant as well as ensure their vessels are seaworthy when sailing in Brunei waters.
