Every language has phrases whose true meaning goes beyond what it seems. Is this the case with the phrase "thank you, sir"? My former and my current manager usually use this phrase when thanking me for something I did or for responding to them.
Usually, I am a formal. I am still learning how to be witty in America since English is not my first language. Am I overthinking on this matter and this is just a common way to simply say "thank you" or it does mean something else?
