(mg/L); Ks is the half-saturation constant of growth kinetics (substrate-affinity
constant) (mg/L); and Ki is the substrate-inhibition
constant (mg/L). The Haldane parameters of phenol degradation
with PDB were compared with other phenol degrading microorganisms
in Table 3. The relatively high value for Ks and Ki indicated that
the PDB was able to grow at higher phenolic concentrations and less
sensitive to the substrate inhibition. Thus, although the maximum
specific growth rate of PDB was slightly lower, its more tolerant
to phenol may be of great importance for biodegradation in contaminated
environments.
