A study of production management in India examined the present nature of activities and responsibilities and attempted to predict future trends likely to affect Indian production management. Experienced managers from 100 companies in both labor-and capital-industries were selected for the survey, and responses were obtained from 72. The questionnaire revealed that the primary objective of most production managers is to ensure customer satisfaction by meeting due dates and by reducing production costs. The major problems faced by managers appear to be 1. production scheduling 2. capacity planning and 3. waste control.
