ammonia-nitrogen (TA-N), nitrite-nitrogen (NO2-N),
nitrate-nitrogen (NO3-N), chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), total
suspended solids (TSS) and volatile suspended solids
(VSS), 1 liter of water sample was taken from all cul-
turing bins at every 3 days. For measurement of
nitrogen compounds, 200 mL subsamples filtered
through a 1.2 lm GF/C glass microfiber filter
(Whatman, Piscataway, NJ, USA) were kept at a
refrigerator and analysed within 24 h. Separate
50 mL subsamples were filtered onto pre-combusted
GF/C filters for analysis of TSS and VSS concentra-
tions. Another 50 mL subsample for Chl-a measure-
ment was filtered through GF/C fibre filter and
stored at a refrigerator for 24 h until used for analy-
sis. All analysis of water quality was followed by the
procedures of the APHA (1998).
