Indirect Communicators, on the other hand, are really quite fascinating. They are all about respecting others and they value courtesy highly. They will always seek out the polite response. They will be hesitant to give bad news. They will find a way to avoid directly answering a question. They will change the subject. To indicate disagreement, they will say “It will be difficult”. They will leave sentences unfinished. They will not admit a lack of understanding. To communicate, they will frequently tell a story and allow the listener to come to his own conclusions. Meanings are implicit and embedded. They use silence to communicate. In fact, indirect communicators believe that it is better to talk too little than too much. An indirect communicator’s use of silence is a good indication of his/her power or rank in society. The ‘bold response” in the world of indirect communicators is a “rude response”. Indirect communicators conceal their emotions. They will focus their eyes on your neck or neck-tie as indirect communicators feel it is aggressive and disrespectful to initiate eye contact.
