From the above results, it can be concluded that the
methanolic extract of the fruit A squamosa showed more
potent in vitro antioxidant activity, with higher percentage
inhibition, than the aqueous extract of the fruit. Phytochemical
analysis revealed the presence of phenolic and
flavonoid compounds in the extracts. These compounds
may be responsible for the free radical scavenging activity
that was observed. Further studies are in progress to isolate
the active principles from the extract and to elucidate the
exact mechanism of action of the free radical scavenging
effect.
