IAs identified at the outset of this study, one of the difficulties faced by EFL students when they develop writing skills was that they lacked the knowledge of the text-type in terms of language features and text features; therefore, they did not know how to turn their ideas into their intelligible text. A sample “expert” and “selective” recount genre helped students realize its purposes, its language features and its schematic structure and they could use this knowledge to produce their own recount writing effectively.
