Like the understandability ratings, simple effects analysis on the willingness to comply data showed a consistent pattern of means for all signs across the different orders except for sign C. When sign C was presented first (M= 1.14), willingness to comply was lower than at the other positions (M= 3.33, 4.43 and 4.31 for the second, third and fourth positions,
respectively).
Two judges scored the responses to the final
question which asked participants to describe the
meaning of the signs. All (100%) of the participants
understood the intended meaning at the end of the
experiment.
