The miser and the envious man
There once lived two men. One of them was a miser and the other was an
envious man, They always complained to each other about their troubles at home.
They were not satisfied with neighbours. So one day they decided to leave
their homes and go elsewhere to find new friends.
On their way they met a genie who could guess at once their characters.
The genie wanted to prove them. He walked with them for some time saying
nothing until they arrived at the street. Then he turned to them and
said:
"My friends, I want to offer you a present. One of you can ask what he
wants but the other who asks nothing will have the present twice over."
At last the miser said, "well, I shall ask first but you will pay for it for me."
The miser asked for the loss of one eye. His wish was immediately carried
out. One became a one-eyed man, and the other became blind.
