Numerous chemicals have been tested for chemical control of bacterial leaf blight. For example, leaf blight lesions in rice were reduced by application of bleaching powder containing 30% chlorine. The broad-spectrum antibiotics benzylpenicillin, ampicillin, kanamycin, streptomycin, chloramphenicol, and sinobionic also inhibit the growth of Xoo isolates, although their effects were examined only in vitro.
