nose with nasal cavity
The nose is made up of two adjacent nasal cavities. The downward directed nostrils provide protection from the wind and, with the nose hairs, prevent foreign particles from entering the body. the inhaled air is inhaled and exhaled through the nose
the nasal cavities prepare the inhaled air for its path into the lower airways by :
- warming the air via the nasal conchae
- humidifying the air via e.g. ,the mucous glands in the nasal mucosa
- cleaning the air of foreign substances/dust particles via the respiratory epithelium
