3. Conclusion
This study afforded eight previously unreported iridoids from G.
elegans. Their configurations were deduced by an X-ray analysis
(1), and by a Mosher’s method (2), as well as by comparison with
reported data. Compound 5 possesses a rare a-D-glucopyranose
unit. Compound 6 is a noriridoid due to the absence of C-3. All
these compounds belong to the rare class of Gelsemium iridoids.
