Hundreds of people queued in gale force winds for hours for their chance to bag a ticket to the USA this summer.
Camp America held its annual recruitment fair at Manchester Town Hall on Thursday – and was not short of applications.
The fair opened at 1pm, but by 10.30am hundreds of people were already braving the cold for their place in line, with the queue snaking all the way around Albert Square.
Inside there were 51 camps from all over the States, offering a range of specialisms from sport and drama to looking after disabled youngsters, and looking to hire people for nine weeks this summer.
Similar events also took place in London and Edinburgh. Last year around 1,600 people signed up in Manchester alone.
Kerry McSweeney, a spokeswoman for Camp America, said: “We don't have the final figures yet, but it is pretty comparable to last year,” she said. “The fairs make it very easy for people to find a placement, and they get to choose where they go.
“Camp America has been going since 1969 so it's stood the test of time.”
