The study applies the EIO approach to the decision analysis of
ocean uses in Xiamen Bay, prioritizing two leading marine
industries—marine transportation and waterfront tourism. Based
on the 2007 Xiamen IO table and relevant data from the literature,
an EIO model was established. The economic output impacts and
several environmental effects (energy consumption, air emission,
freshwater use, and water pollutant discharge) associated with the
two marine functional uses are investigated with a region-wide
perspective. In addition, a comparative static analysis is conducted
to simulate the influences of expected economic growth and
structural change on selected economic and environmental
parameters.
