Increased Motivation. Order and safety are necessary to promote student motivation (Radd,
1998). Brophy (1987a) identified classroom management as an “essential precondition for
motivating students” (p. 208). Classroom management is a foundation the teacher builds
on in creating motivated classrooms. In addition, by seeking student input on instructional
and management issues, the teacher can promote student ownership and involvement, both
of which positively influence student motivation (McLaughlin, 1994).
