It is well recognized that understanding the physiolog-ical responses, particularly in competitive situations, iscritical for the development of specific training programsaimed to improve athletic performance. Previous findingshave suggested that the energy system contribution isone of the most important variables related to successin sport climbing. However, most studies investigatedthe energy system contribution to climbing performance innon-competitive conditions. This is especially impor-tant during sport climbing competition where athletes mayexperience some factors capable of increasing the exercisemetabolic demands such as the requirements of maximumefforts, no prior knowledge about the climbing routes andpsychological stress itself. Therefore, our study aimed toanalyze the blood lactate concentration response in eliteclimbers at climbing routes with different difficulties (semi-final and final routes) in a real competitive situation.
