Symptoms generally consist of chlorotic tissue extending across the leaf on both sides of the midrib. The colour avaries from yellow-green to white, and in some cultivars a pinkish tinge may develop. The areas range from narrow stripes on each margin of the leaf to bands 50 to 100 mm broad(Fig. 43). The chlorotic bands are posi tioned near the base of the older leaves and progressively closer to the tips of the successively younger leavese yecurred in the spindle before the affected leaves unrolled.
